On October 12, 2016; National Curves Day partnered with District Running Collective to celebrate National Curves Week during their weekly Wednesday evening run. Thank you to the founder of National Curves Day - K for her vision. Women and girls of all ages, shapes, and sizes THANK YOU for leading the charge as an advocate for us to embrace our curves.
Well over 100 runners and walkers of varying levels ascended on to Georgia Avenue, in and outside of the Colony Club to prepare for the 2k. I am in no way a runner, but I am not one to back down from a challenge. Whenever I wanted to give up Carlos was right there to motivate and encourage me. The tips were invaluable.
I am fully aware that everyone is not ready to run a marathon so I have a few tips to share whether walking or running.
Preparing for the Stride
*Set a daily steps goal - the average is 10,000 steps per day for someone just getting started.
*Increase your steps by 500 per day every two weeks to keep up the endurance
*Wear a pedometer or download an app on your Smartphone to track
*Listen to music to keep your mind off of the actual steps
*Find a partner that is committed to their health and wellness goals, a group is even better
Once it becomes part of your routine
continue to track your daily steps and/or mileage; and keep notes on how you feel as well as the changes in your body.
The goal is to get moving and often. You are not in a race; unless, you are in a race so take your time to understand and enjoy the process. Always discuss any new physical activity with your doctor prior to starting to prevent injury. Take care of your body so that it can take care of you. Every little step counts!
